Ubuntu comes with Rhythmbox as the fully-supported music player, one of many choices for playing your music. It is a music player that enables you to plug in your MP3 player, download and share music, access rights-free music stores, share albums across networks and stream live radio. With Totem Video Player, you can watch streamed content from the BBC, YouTube and other sources. It also supports a range of free and open source music formats. In addition, Canonical is making codecs available to enable users to watch DVDs and access proprietary formats legally and easily (at shop.ubuntu.com).
Stream live radio. Rhythmbox opens up the world of Internet radio. On top of the pre-configured options, there are thousands of stations that can be streamed by simply entering the URL of the station. Rhythmbox enables you to categorise them as you like so you can match the music to your mood.

Access (truly) free music stores. Rhythmbox gives you access to two music stores (Magnatune and Jamendo) that publish music under the creative commons and give you access to a different way of buying music. Choose your price and 50 per cent goes to the artist – it's a glimpse of the future of music publishing.

Plug in your devices. Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and other peripheral interfaces mean that whatever portable device you choose to listen on will be read by Rhythmbox and enable you to listen from the device or move music around depending on the digital rights management (DRM) of the device you are using. Rhythmbox does not come with DRM restrictions.

Share your music across a network. Great for the office, dorm or lab. Simply choose to share your library of music on the network and anyone on that network can listen to your tunes. Or you can browse other people's collections. Play the music by using the standard controls in your own player. Find out who in your network likes Una Paloma Blanca!

There are a large number of video players for download in Ubuntu. The main supported video player is Totem. Totem will play all free video formats and many proprietary formats. Codecs for all formats are available for purchase from Canonical for Ubuntu 9.04, including DVD playback. Ubuntu 9.04 also brings BBC content to Ubuntu users. Users throughout the world will receive constantly-updated content. YouTube content and other plug-ins are also available.
