Alternate installer details

The text based alternate installer can be downloaded from the complete list of download locations below. This installation CD is suited for computers unable to run the graphical desktop based installation, either because their computer does not meet the minimum requirements for the live cd or because their computer requires configuration after the installation is complete in order to use the desktop.

BitTorrent

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer download network that sometimes enables higher download speeds and more reliable downloads of large files. You will need to install a Bit Torrent client on your computer in order to enable this download method. You may then use one of the following links to download the Ubuntu cd image:

Choose a location near you to see a full list of download options, including download links for all supported cd images. Once you choose a location you'll be able to choose which version of Ubuntu you'd like to download and the correct CD for your platform.

DVD downloads

Don't be confused, even though DVDs can hold far more data than the typical Ubuntu CD, the main benefit of the DVD downloads is to get access to all of the available language packs. Most people will be fine with the standard CD installer. There are fewer download locations for the DVD images and this list is updated less frequently than for the CD images.
